Heat & storms return hampering clean-up

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The crest forecast for The Santa Fe is expected to reach an all-time record high at 36.8 ft. on Friday bringing with it road closures in and around the I-75 corridor in Columbia and Alachua Counties. The news is much better for the rest of our area creeks and rivers with falling water levels and they should drop enough for everybody to get back home by Friday.

Today the big concern is making sure those without power have an air-conditioned place. Hazy, hot and humid highs near 90 will feel like the middle to upper 90s.

Friday thunderstorms may bring strong gusty wind and heavy rain but will decrease over the weekend as a north breeze helps some with the heat and humidity.

Next week a much drier pattern arrives with sunshine and highs in the middle to upper 80s.
